Unique postage stamp “Lego”

Special postage stamp for the 90th anniversary lego issued by the Austrian Post. The total circulation was 450,000 copies. The publication has become a real event in Europe, both for philatelists and constructor lovers.

The fact is that this brand is the first that the Danish manufacturer’s group has developed for German-speaking countries. It is also the first official Lego postage stamp in the 21st century. It should be especially noted that the commemorative stamp is supplemented with a specially created stamp with the date of the day of the first issue and an original image of a miniature figurine of a woman delivering letters. All this is reported by the press service of the Austrian Post Office.

Meanwhile, the release of a special postage stamp is timed not only to the 90th anniversary of the Danish company Lego. Another important event in the history of the Austrian capital contributed to the birth of the idea. As you know, the Ferris wheel from the Vienna Prater, depicted on the stamp, is celebrating its own 125th birthday this year! The symbol of the city of Vienna, known to tourists, was opened in 1897 in honor of the 50th anniversary of the accession to the throne of Emperor Franz Joseph. The most amazing thing is that the oldest Ferris wheel in the world is still in operation!

Thus, with the release of a special postage stamp featuring a LEGO-shaped Ferris wheel, the Austrian Post decided to commemorate both significant dates.

The drawing on the stamp strongly resembles a model from the designer 31119 LEGO Creator 3-in-1 Ferris Wheel 2021 release. There is nothing surprising in this, because the design of the brand was developed by Chris Booth by order of the LEGO Agency, that is, the Danish manufacturer’s own “creative agency” was involved.

It is noteworthy that the first copies of the stamp with a face value of 1.20 euros were presented during a small festive event right next to the famous Ferris Wheel in Vienna. So interested philatelists had the opportunity to purchase it in an impromptu “post office”. The rest will be able to order the Lego commemorative stamp via the Internet and receive it by mail.
