Project with bridges was included in the LEGO competition

In different parts of our planet, bridges of various designs have been erected. But not all people know what these or those types are. The author’s project under the nickname MOCingbird will help to understand this.
Submitted to the Idea Contest Lego the set is a kind of “visual aid” that will give an exact answer to the question – what are the bridges? By the way, more than 10,000 construction fans voted for the model proposed by a Berliner called “The World of Civil Engineering: Types of Bridges” to be released as an official Lego set. Now it is up to the jury members of the Danish company, who should consider this idea along with others in the fall of 2022.
Now specifically about the model itself. The author proposes to build seven 28-cm fragments of bridges of various modifications from cubes:
- two arched,
- inclined rope,
- half-timbered,
- cantilevered,
- beam;
- suspension.
One of the main forms in the construction of bridges is the arch structure due to their high strength and reliability. One model shows the construction of such a bridge for the railway, the second – for pedestrians. In both versions, they are “erected” above the highway.
Models are developed on the basis of real prototypes. Thus, a fragment of an inclined cable bridge was copied from the Millau Viaduct from southern France, a part of the Japanese Yoshima Bridge was reproduced in a half-timbered model, and the famous Golden Gate of San Francisco was reproduced in a suspended model. For correct orientation, each fragment is accompanied by a sign with the name of the original bridge.
The author of the project demonstrated not only the construction of bridges, but also supplemented the structures with miniature models of a passenger train, a tram, a cargo van and cars, as well as a loaded barge. Well, for the full picture, I accompanied my work with two miniature figures of builders, since one of the seven bridges is still closed for repairs.
