Not all fans appreciated Lego awards unambiguously
On the starting day of the traditional London Toy Fair 2022 (Note that the LEGO Group is not currently a member) British Toy and Hobby Association (BTHA) and Toy Retailers Association (TRA) announced the winners of the annual competition. The awards were presented to the winners in 22 industry nominations.
The Danish construction kit manufacturer has received two awards in the Toy and Supplier of the Year categories. The jury’s highest marks were given to LEGO sets 75955 Harry Potte Hogwarts Express and 42115 Technic Lamborghini Sian FKP 37.
It seemed like good news. However, some Lego fans were critical of such a success. Commentators are especially surprised by the fact that among the winners of the competition, designers are far from “not the first freshness.” Indeed, the first prefabricated kit was released by a Danish company in 2018, the second in 2020. Although criticizing users do not express anything specific against these sets. They only note that after the indicated nominees, dozens of other designers were produced, which, firstly, would exactly match the name of the “Toy of 2022” competition and, secondly, are more worthy of industry awards in terms of content. Most importantly, the choice here was huge, because in 2021 alone, the Lego company, despite the global problem with the coronovirus, released more meaningful constructors than ever before.
