The LEGO Art series will be replenished with a new set in early 2023
The memorable novelty of the summer of 2022 was the designer 21333 LEGO Ideas Van Gogh’s Starry Night. With the help of the details of this set, it is possible to recreate a “brick” 3D version of one of the iconic icons of 19th century painting. But it’s not about him.
The fact is that almost simultaneously with the premiere of the set with the masterpiece of the Dutch artist, visitors to the LEGO Ideas website voted in support of another “artistic” project. In it, a fan designer offered a 3D version of another world-famous work, The Great Wave off Kanagawa by Japanese artist Katsushika Hokusai.
This color woodcut is considered to be one of the most famous and popular works of Japanese fine art outside of Japan. At the same time, it is believed that in the West the picture is known better than any other work of Asian painting.
The Great Wave off Kanagawa, a LEGOverwatch author’s project shortlisted for the second 2022 LEGO Ideas Review
That is why the idea of a fan of the “world of bricks” under the nickname LEGOverwatch found the necessary support and passed to the next stage of the review. However, three months after the success, it turns out that this author’s project in the final of an open competition of ideas is actually doomed to failure. This will happen if the news that appeared on the network that the Danish manufacturer has already planned to release a similar model in January 2023 is confirmed. According to preliminary information, the picture “The Great Wave off Kanagawa” will appear in the form of a prefabricated constructor under the number 31208 in the LEGO Art series.
Recall that the Art line is a relatively young direction among the thematic Lego series – in August 2022 it was only 2 years old. During this time, design fans were offered entertaining wall decorations in the form of paintings and framed portraits. Therefore, the appearance of new copies of works of art becomes a harmonious continuation of the theme.
In general, the art collection now has 12 models. Their main feature is the unique building material for Lego sets – multi-colored 1×1 circles are used instead of the usual cubes. Therefore, such projects are called mosaics.
There is little information about the new constructor of the Art series. As always, it will be addressed to adult construction fans. In the assembly kit – 1810 parts. The estimated price of the set is 99.99 euros. In terms of content, it is likely to be somewhat different from previous projects. Usually, in such a mosaic, several options for assembling an image are initially provided. Although it is simply impossible to imagine such an approach when recreating a specific artistic masterpiece.
However, assembling a painting promises to be another exciting creative process. This is due to the fact that the very attachment of the mosaic details on the tiles and the recreation of the famous painting come together in it.
