Flood-affected children of Germany will receive help from «Lego»

Lego Company together with its Foundation announced a donation of over 950,000 euros, or 7.1 million Danish crowns, to the Red Cross in Aachen. This targeted action is aimed at the reconstruction of socially important facilities located in North Rhine-Westphalia in Germany. They suffered as a result of severe flooding this summer.

According to experts, in general, the restoration of the destroyed infrastructure and the improvement of homes in the affected area of Germany will require years of hard work. The inhabitants of North Rhine-Westphalia have been struggling with the consequences of the July flood for three months, trying to rebuild their lives.
“The water is gone, but the need for help and support is indomitable,” said LEGO GmbH CEO Karen Pasha-Gladyshev, explaining the donation decision. “We are committed to the well-being of children around the world and we hope that this contribution will help local children and families affected areas of North Rhine-Westphalia.
Part of the donation will be used to restore 10 kindergartens located in the German villages of Euskirchen, Ahrweiler and Stolberg/Eschweiler. Along with the reconstruction of heavily damaged children’s institutions, it is planned to build and open centers for family assistance to children and families in the cities of Stolberg and Eschweiler. They will be complexes with children’s departments of traumatology and medical and therapeutic practice. A branded Lego indoor playground will also be built, in which the main emphasis will be placed on children’s play education.
In the end, it should be noted that this is not the first charity action from Lego. For example, in August, the LEGO Foundation made large donations to various charities in Afghanistan and Haiti.
